Designing a retail and office space for Matsu-Cha, a Japanese tea house run by a talented Japanese couple who are both designers with exceptional taste. This multifunctional space will serve as retail, office, workshop venue, and takeaway counter whilst housing extensive tea storage. The high-ceilinged space embraces minimal Japanese aesthetics with authentic touches throughout. A beautiful concrete floor features carefully placed stepping stones that guide movement through the space, whilst a warm wooden bar and back wall create welcoming service areas. Traditional noren curtains will complete the design, adding softness and cultural authenticity. Every element honours the precision and simplicity of Japanese design principles whilst creating a functional modern tea house. Working with clients who understand design so intimately makes this collaboration particularly rewarding. The result will be a serene space that celebrates both contemporary Amsterdam living and traditional Japanese tea culture.
